If you’re like me, there are days when you would rather eat your own arm than get out of bed.  (These are called weekdays). This is is a list of things that make the day bearable for me.

  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
  • Top Gear
  • Fireworks
  • Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
  • Sunshine
  • the Indiana Jones trilogy
  • Good News Week
  • Dr Who, especially of the David Tennant variety (but Christopher Ecclestone comes a close second)
  • The Indian man who works as an announcer at Southern Cross station and sounds like a Dalek
  • Autumn afternoons
  • Spring racing carnival, even if it means being completely broke
  • Mexican food
  • Spicks and Specks
  • Eurovision
  • Coffee, large amounts thereof
  • The West Wing
  • Classic rock
  • Triple chocolate mud cake
  • Anything involving Johnny Depp
  • Hamish and Andy (seriously, how did we get by without them?)

  • Blowing bubbles
  • Discovering ten dollars in my coat pocket that I’d forgotten about
  • Mini Coopers

  • Sitting in my parents garden reading a good book
  • Icecream from Seven Apples in St Kilda

  • The Mighty Boosh
  • Cajun chicken salad from Qube in Fairfield
  • That feeling of vindication that you get when you finally get to open the umbrella you’ve been lugging around all day even though it’s sunny because you live in Melbourne and that’s how Melbourne rolls.
  • Singing in the Rain – the original or spontaneous recreations of (see above)
  • The noise that Transformers make when they transform
  • The first wattle flower sighting at the end of winter
  • The first really warm day after winter, but before that horrible week in January where the temperature never drops
  • Spontaneous nonsense phone calls from my brother
  • Making my mother accidentally say rude words
  • Planning my summer according to the music festivals
  • Sunsets
  • Going to the ballet
